Everyone wants to have a nice looking ship if it can be easily and (cheaply) achieved.
Here are instructions on how to make your own railings to your scale ship model.
8" of railing in less than half-an-hour is possible with this method.
Material:
  • Tunn mässingstråd, cirka 0,1 mm. Tips!
  • Materials:
  • Thin brasswire, c:a 0.1 mm. Tip! There are wine-bottles that are wrapped in a brass-wire-mesh...
  • Wooden icecreamsticks (popsicklesticks) of the long flat type, the longer the better.
  • Solder and paint.
  • Verktyg:
  • Avbitare,
  • Sandpapper,
  • Pensel.
  • Tools:
  • Sidecutter,
  • Sanding paper,
  • Hobby knife with a blade that will become blunt,
  • Soldering iron,
  • Paintbrush.
Take an long flat icecream stick made from wood and cut off the ends so that they become straight.
Mark the distance between the poles along one side ("Topside"). N.B. At one end should the distance be halved and reduced with the thickness of the stick. ("Foldingside").
Mark the distances between the long railings on the short edges of the stick.
Carve small notches on the edges of the stick at the marking to prevent the wire from gliding.
Pull the brasswire through a folded sandpaper to remove any dirt and oxide.
Fasten the wire at one end of the stick ("Fasteningside") and wind it in full parallell loops fitting in the notches on the short edges.
Fasten the wire again on the "Fasteningside" and then wind it in full parallell loops in the long-side notches.
Löd försiktigt i alla korsningarpå både fram och baksida. Snåla med tennet.
Måla relingen medan den sitter på plats.
Solder the wire-crossings on both sides of the stick. Do not put on too much solder.
Paint the railing while it still is on the stick.
Cut loose the railing from the stick by cutting the long railing-wires at the "Fasteningside" and cutting the short standing wires *under* the stick (the edgeof the stick) and just above the top railing wire (on the flat-side of the stick). DO NOT cut the long railingwires at the "Foldingside"!
Remove the stick and unfold the railing.
Fasten your railing to your ship with your favourite glue used on the small angles the are formed at the bottom of the standing wires.

    Good luck.
